The Fun Fitness Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit organization formed in May 2018 in Charleston, WV. Their goal is to help curb the adult and childhood obesity rate in West Virginia by providing fun fitness activities thus burning calories with exercise.
The organization has received grant funding from Try This WV with a 2018 minigrant towards the purchase of an obstacle course to provide fitness & financial literacy programming into Kanawha County Schools.
They received a 2nd stage Try this WV Grant in 2019 to facilitate the Zumbini in the Community program, free mommy and me baby Zumba classes with Fun Fitness Kids Club LLC .
They also received The WV Governor’s Office - Herbert Henderson Minority Affairs, BRIDGE grant in 2020 that helped facilitate the Fun Fitness Challenge for Kanawha County students, held in May 2020. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a virtual fun fitness challenge was issued during National Physical Fitness month where students from Chamberlain Elementary, Bridgeview, Piedmont, Weberwood, St. Francis, and Overbrook Elementary in Kanawha County participated. Monetary prizes were given to the top 3 winners and gifts for all participants.
The challenge was culminated by a free Fun Fitness Festival in June 2020 with music, fun fitness activities, healthy refreshments, and additional prizes & gifts for fitness games during the event.
The Fun Fitness Foundation created the WV Kids Business Expo in 2019 as a fundraiser to help provide fun fitness activities within the community. In 2019, between 2 separate events, the WV Kids Business Expo helped over 25 youth entrepreneurs showcase their business and participate in a small business pitch contest to win funds toward their business.
